In shopping for her own little [soon-coming] blessing... My sister told my about Monkey Toe Diapers... an online store that is preparing to close... and so is selling everything at a marked down price. Since I have been needing to get KB some new diapers - hers are all getting way to small, and we're having trouble with leaking - I decided to take a peek, and see what they had to offer. Turns out they had some Thirsties covers, for a little off of the average going price! The brief experience I have had with Thirsties (someone kindly gave us one Small cover & one Fab-fitted diaper, when KB was a baby) I remember being quite pleased with both the fit, and the quality! Curious as to what they had to offer.... I first clicked the Large. Only 2-3 left... in blue, green... and purple! Purple definitely works for me! Then I went over to Mediums.... oh no! only one left.... just watch it's going to be blue. I hesitantly click... and what should my eyes see... but it's pink! (yay!)- Definitely a sign that it was meant to be! (lol!) I quickly add them to my cart (before anyone else takes it - haha)... along with a few Snappi® Fasteners I have been wanting to try. Ends up, I spent just about $30 ( so a little more than 10% off my order).... and along with my replacement Motherease covers (which should also be coming any day - long story!)... we should be all set in the diaper department for a while, now! yay!
BTW, Huntington Beach, CA (t-shirt in picture) is were our friend JAmes lives now. B & I thought it to was quite funny (& ironic) that there would be a shirt of the same place... so for such a price, I got it! ;)
DH was home *all* day... so after stopping in to Best Buy to make a return & check on the job application B put in earlier today.... we spent a good part of the afternoon walking around Barnes & Noble, drinking our coffee (I love coffee!!), and looking at all the fun books. With Christmas coming up quickly, the economy being as it is.... a lot of people seem to be looking for frugal alternatives for Christmas gifts this year. I am especially intrigued by how many people are considering making homemade gifts... which was apparent by all the neat crafty books! Not knowing myself, what I was going to do for KB for Christmas... and not really wanting to get more toys for KB (esp not battery-eating, plastic ones - we're trying to stick to the "simple is better" thing)... I found myself leaning towards also making something. But what? Then I found it, in this book....

So then I had my idea... what if I made a few of these little birds... and then buy Heather (my wonderful crafty sister) some brown yarn to knit or crochet a "bird's nest"?? So that's my idea... what do you think??
Now all I have to do is get the book [oh*twist*my*arm!]... find some red socks... and then figure out something I can do for my hubby!!! -- I am SO excited!!
Today I decided to try cleaning à la green.... by completely cleaning my bathroom using only: water, baking soda, vinegar, borax & liquid detergent.... and I absolutely love the results!! It only cost me pennies... which is awesome, given the price of conventional cleaners... and I felt good about using it! I finally didn't have to worry about us breathing or KB getting into/walking over whatever chemicals were around / being used!! I can't wait until our lemon tree goes into season and I can add lemon juice to the mix too!!
About a month ago, my dad called me up out of the blue, asking if he could take KB and I out to lunch. We ended up going to Olive Garden (Soup Salad & Bread sticks!), and then to one of my dad's all-time favorite shopping locations... Goodwill. In our attempts to steer away from as most toys that are battery operated, plastic, or "made in China.... I wasn't seeming to be finding much that even remotely seemed interesting. Suddenly, something promising catches my attention! I pull it out, and realize it's this adorable, colorful little [wooden] snail with a tiny nylon pull cord attached to it! As I turn it over in my hands... inspecting all sides... and become quite impressed by the solid structure & fine quality by which it seems to have been crafted. And the price??... only $.99! Wow! Any of you who have looked into or bought wooden toys of any kind, know that they are not cheap!!! I showed it to dad, and he decided to buy it for KB! Yay!
